From 1 January 2023, the WhatsApp application will no longer work on 49 smartphone models which will become obsolete for the online messaging application. To keep access to messaging, you’ll need an operating system higher than iOS 12.1 or Android 4.1.
In fact, technological development requires that messaging systems evolve, for their part, to operate on new smartphone models and thus become incompatible with older ones.
This will be the case for WhatsApp on January 1, 2023, with 49 phone models that will become obsolete for the online messaging application. This will mainly affect 10-year-old smartphone models.
The mobile application explains, in fact, that “to keep up with the latest technological advances, we regularly stop supporting older operating systems to devote our resources to supporting the newer systems”.
For example, the iPhone 5 and 5c, or the Samsung Galaxy S2 and S3, models from ten years ago, are on the list of smartphones at risk of losing access to the application.
In order to keep access to WhatsApp, users will need to have a smartphone with a version higher than iOS 12.1 for Apple or Android 4.1. You can also continue to benefit from WhatsApp, provided you have a device on which you can update the operating system to be able to move to the next version.
