WhatsApp will no longer be available on 47 legacy models of iOS and Android devices starting January 1st. The millions of users of those phones get a warning before the app stops working.
The models of Huawei, LG and Samsung, among others, which entered the market ten years ago have an older version of Android 4.1 and iOS 12.1. “Devices and software change frequently, so we regularly review which operating systems we support and make updates,” WhatsApp said in a statement, know A.D.
“These devices may also not have the latest security updates or may not have the functionality needed to run WhatsApp. To keep up with the latest technical developments, we regularly discontinue support for older operating systems. That way we can focus on supporting the latest systems,” the popular messaging service said.
For users of outdated devices, there is no other option than buying a new phone if they want to continue using WhatsApp.
