WhatsApp will soon change the default setting which allows anyone with access to your number to see the date and time of your last connection. From now on, only the user’s contacts will have access to this information, a parameter that can be changed if desired.

Lately, WhatsApp seems to want to show privacy white paw. Indeed, the CGU news affair at the beginning of the year has obviously shaken up the application, which is now on the FBI’s list of couriers that spy their users the most. This is how new privacy protection features, such as the ability to enable ephemeral messages on all conversations by default have recently appeared.
WhatsApp is now tackling another downside to its functionality: the date of the last connection. Indeed, it is possible to see at what time a contact was connected for the last time. A relatively harmless observation when it comes to a loved one, but much more annoying when a stranger has access to it. An issue that the app addressed in its last beta, which configures this default setting on “contacts” instead of “everyone”, on Android and iOS. A modification confirmed on Twitter by the teams themselves.
No more being spied on by strangers on Whatsapp
What may seem trivial to some is clearly not so for everyone. Several applications make it possible to record this information for a third party, thus giving a very clear idea of the target’s use of WhatsApp, thus determining the hours when she is most active, as well as those when she leaves her phone aside, for example to sleep.

For now, it is obviously still possible to reconfigure the option so that everyone can see this information. Nevertheless, we can bet without batting an eyelid that the majority of users will prefer reserve it for their loved ones, and that this setting eventually becomes the norm. Another attempt on the part of WhatsApp to become the right student in the class, after publicly revealing all the data that the application collects.
