WhatsApp will not allow users to delete chats from linked devices

WhatsApp has long been working on a new feature called device paired or multi-device support. This feature, as its name implies, will allow users to access the messaging platform from multiple devices without having the need to have their smartphones nearby. In recent months, reports have detailed the progress the company has made in this regard. Now, a new report sheds more light on WhatsApp’s upcoming feature.

How does linked device chats work?

With this new function, up to 4 devices can be linked to the same WhatsApp account at the same time, and the main device does not need to be connected to the Internet. The multi-device will include a tool to migrate your chat history between iOS and Android. User must use the latest update to migrate chat history.

WhatsApp may launch multi-device features for WhatsApp Web only in the first place. Mobile devices can receive this feature later.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the blog that tracks development on WhatsApp, WhatsApp will not allow users to delete chats from linked devices. The blog site says that when a user deletes a chat from the main device or one of the linked devices, it will not be deleted from other linked devices. Also, the Facebook-owned messaging app will not give users the option to choose whether to remove the chat from other linked devices.

The image of the feature shared by the blog site indicates that when users choose the option to delete a chat on one of the linked devices, WhatsApp will show them a dialog box informing users that the chat will not be deleted from others devices.

“If you delete or delete entire chats, only messages from this device will be deleted. They will not be removed from other devices, ”says the message in the dialog box.

That said, this feature is still in development and WhatsApp may refine this feature so that users have the option to choose between deleting chats from a particular device or all linked devices.
