WhatsApp will display the estimated download time for transferring a file

Late last month, we saw WhatsApp testing the ability to send media files up to 2GB in size in Argentina. On top of that, the Meta-owned messaging platform is now testing another nifty feature related to file transfer, which will show the estimated download time for the file you are sharing with someone.

The file transfer feature was recently spotted by WABetaInfo. He is reported that a new estimated download time feature for transferring a file is being rolled out and will show the file transfer progress as the time and percentage remaining for a file to be sent to a recipient.

The feature was spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android (v2.22.8.11), iOS (v22.8.0.74), and Desktop (v2.2209.3) and is currently rolling out to select beta testers.

Besides this feature, WhatsApp also test new drawing tools to edit images on the platform before sending them to friends and family. Currently, if you open an image to send to a recipient on WhatsApp and tap on the pencil tool, you only get one pencil tool to draw on the image.

However, with the new update, users will have two new pencils for drawing, as well as a blur option to blur texts or objects in an image that the sender does not want the recipient to see. You can see a preview of the new drawing tools in the screenshot below.

Regarding the availability of the new drawing tools, WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is currently testing them on iOS beta 22.8.0.73 and they are being rolled out to a few beta testers. There’s no word on when it will arrive in the hands of the general public (both Android and iOS), but it could be soon.
