WhatsApp plans to end support for many Android devices starting in January 2023.
Smartphones with Android versions older than Android 5.0 released in 2014 are affected by this measure.
There is also bad news for Apple users: devices with iOS10 from 2016 or iOS11 from 2017 will no longer receive updates.
The danger of missing updates: Security gaps are no longer fixed, it is no longer possible to create new accounts or it is no longer possible to verify existing accounts.

The following applies to all affected persons: Back up your chat history as soon as possible. Because if you want to continue using WhatsApp, you need a new smartphone.
