WhatsApp developers are working on implementing a feature that will allow iPhone and Android smartphone users to transcribe audio messages or voice notes to text messages, according to WaBetaInfo. A feature that, basically, will offer the possibility of “reading audio messages” from WhatsApp.
This function is available in the paid version of Telegram. Although you can transcribe audio using an app, the team behind WhatsApp is developing their own solution.
The messaging platform has been working on this feature since September 2021 on iOS. However, the development was halted without the reasons being revealed and was eventually picked up.
In the latest WhatsApp beta update for iOS, version 23.3.0.73, the development of voice memo transcription has been discovered.
The platform will implement an introductory screen to explain the limitations of the function. For example, it will not be available when the words are not recognized, or are in a language other than the one we have installed within the app.

According to the information coming from the beta version, the transcriptions will be processed within the device itself (iPhone and Android) and no data will be sent to Apple or any other manufacturer, which is great news in terms of privacy. This novelty will be one of those WhatsApp tricks that is worth using on a daily basis.
The new function to transcribe voice notes to text messages belongs to version 2.23.3.73 of WhatsApp Messenger which, for the moment, is available in its beta phase.
The developers have included an introduction menu to explain when the audio note transcription system is not available. If the system detects that it is in a different language than the one established in the configuration, the words of the audio message will not be recognized.
There is no doubt that this is a very convenient functionality for many users. Especially in those situations in which a user does not have time to listen to a voice note or does not want to play audio at a higher speed so as not to disturb the people around them.
