When you chat via WhatsApp, you usually quickly click into an existing chat and write a new message. But what if a chat is missing?
You usually have a limited list of friends you text with on WhatsApp on a regular basis. Instead of searching for a contact, simply tap on the already existing chat in the overview and write your message. However, there are situations where a chat no longer appears in the overview.
You can still enter the contact’s name in the search field, click on the contact and enter your message, but the chat will no longer appear in the overview. This is because the chat is archived and then removed from active WhatsApp chats, often by accident.
You can undo this:
- In WhatsApp Web or the app, search for the contact using the search field.
- Right click inside, then click Unarchive the chat.
- The chat is removed from the archive and redisplayed in the normal chat overview.
You can of course also use the chat archiving in a targeted way:
- Right-click the chat you want to archive, then click Archive chats.
- The chat is moved from the overview to the archive and is therefore hidden from view.
- In the overview you will see a new entry at the top Filedwhere all archived chats are located.
