According to ANTARA, WhatsApp reportedly discontinued the auto-save feature for media sent in the form of “Dissapearing Messages” on iPhone.

This was done because it was feared that the previous feature removed the essence of “Dissapearing Messages” which focused on privacy. If you really want to save photos or videos, then users can save them manually or take screenshots.
