It is not yet clear what caused the WhatsApp outage or how many people were affected. According to the website DownDetector the outage affected users worldwide. More than 150,000 people have indicated that WhatsApp did not work for them.
After less than half an hour, more and more users reported that the messaging app was working for them again. More problems than usual were also reported at Instagram and Facebook, which, like WhatsApp, are part of Meta. Those services also started working again shortly afterwards.
If you sent messages via WhatsApp during the outage, it may be useful to check whether your messages were really sent and received.
