Facebook is making one of the most popular features of its WhatsApp messaging app available on Nokia phones.
We often tend to forget it, the GSM continues to coexist with the smartphone. In many developing countries, several million feature phones are still sold each year. Nokia remains one of the main manufacturers. Most of its mobile phones run under a simplified operating system called KaiOS, which integrates certain features of smartphones without, however, offering such a complete ecosystem. For example, it is now possible to use WhatsApp on these terminals. However, not all software features are available. Until now, users could only send messages to each other. No video sharing, therefore, voice calls or memos.
However, Facebook has just decided to deploy a “new” functionality on the Finnish brand’s mobile phones. Users will now also be able to make voice calls, in addition to being able to exchange messages through the application.
The functionality is however only reserved for devices which embed a minimum of 512 MB of RAM and on which the software has been updated. Facebook specifies: buyers who have just got their hands on a new model will be able to take advantage of this function as soon as they unbox their device. However, the company does not specify at this time whether other features will be added at a later date.
