WhatsApp groups can now be grouped under one roof with the launch of a new community feature.
It will launch starting Thursday and is designed to allow updates to be sent to all groups at the same time, allowing for smaller discussions within individual groups.
Think of it as a stacked Russian doll for WhatsApp groups, designed for neighborhood communities, workplaces, and high school parents, according to parent company Meta.
Once inside, you can jump between individual combos (and you should end up muting most of them).
Community managers will have more powers, eg. B. the ability to send promotional messages to anyone in all subgroups.
The same end-to-end encryption used in existing chats and groups is still enforced, so no one outside sees those old memes you’re sending to your kids.
Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg promises that the upgrades simply “make combos better”.
How is a community built?
You should see a new Community tab in WhatsApp – you’ll find it at the top of your chats on Android and below if you’re using an iPhone.
From there you can create a new community from scratch or from a selection of your existing groups.
But wait, there’s more …
Today’s new features will also be added to existing groups.
Chief among these are polls, which could help your friends decide what to watch in the cinema this weekend.
Video calls will also be extended to up to 32 people.
Both add-ons will be available in standard WhatsApp groups and in all groups that have become part of larger communities.
According to Meta, more updates are coming in the coming months.
