The new feature comes with version number 2.23.9.70. Unfortunately, this new feature won’t be coming to Android users anytime soon.
As the name implies, the voicemail transcript feature functions to transcribe voice messages into text. So that the receiver can read it instead of listening to the audio.
This becomes especially useful when users happen to be in a place where they cannot play audio, making communication much more flexible and accessible.
As compiled from GizchinaTuesday (2/5), when users activate the voicemail transcript feature, they will see a bubble under the voicemail.
This makes it easier for users to read voicemail content. After updating, this feature will be enabled by default. However, users can disable it.
To disable it, simply go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Voicemail Transcript. WhatsApp ensures that this feature is always maintained in end-to-end encryption.
This is because transcription takes place on the user’s device. It makes use of the language packs that are already on the device. This means that transcription will also not be available for all iOS devices.
This feature uses the latest API from iOS 16 which allows voice transcription to be processed locally on the device. With the transcription feature, users can also search for specific content within voice messages.
Again, this feature is exclusive to iOS devices. So Android users please be patient until WhatsApp brings it out in the future.
