WhatsApp: this way you can stop and manage notifications on Android and iOS

Notifications on a cell phone generate many debates among users, some consider their existence as keys in their work dynamics, while others see it as a complete hindrance.

In the case of overused applications such as WhatsApp, users also apply this division to manage this function.

Knowing that debate in the market, the most famous operating systems in the world, that is, Android and iOS, added mechanisms so that the user can manage their notifications.

iOS

From the WhatsApp website, he points out that the application has three types of notifications:

  • Sounds: An audible alert plays.
  • Alerts / Banners: An alert or banner appears on the screen.
  • Badges: An image or number appears on the application icon.

To make changes to notification preferences:

  • Open WhatsApp> tap Settings> Notifications. Check that Show notifications is enabled for Group and message notifications.

Mute individual or group chats

  • You can turn off the vibration or sounds you experience in the app. Open WhatsApp> Settings> Notifications> Notifications from the application.

Fix notification problems

Make sure the notification settings are turned on in both WhatsApp and iPhone settings.

If you have verified that the notification settings are correct and you still do not receive notifications, it is likely that there is a problem with your connection or iOS.

Note that notification delivery is completely controlled by Apple’s Push Notification Service (APNS), and WhatsApp has no way of solving problems with this service. If someone sends you a message while you are offline, that message will be sent to APNS to be delivered to your phone.

Android:

From Android the step by step is as follows:

  • Open WhatsApp> tap More options> Settings> Notifications.

You can change message, group and call notifications by choosing:

  • Whether to enable or disable conversation tones for incoming and outgoing messages.
  • Notification tone or ringtone.
  • Vibration duration.
  • Whether to show pop-up notifications on Android 9 and earlier versions. This allows notifications to be displayed in the center of the screen.
  • Notification light color for compatible phones.
  • Whether to use high priority notifications on Android 5 and later. This shows previews of notifications at the top of the screen and can be used to disable search peek notifications.

Note: Disabling high priority notifications will make WhatsApp notifications drop lower on your screen.

To reset notification settings, tap Settings> Notifications> in More options> Reset notification settings> RESET.

Customize notifications

You can customize notifications by choosing different options for ringtone, vibration, popup, and light:

  • Open an individual or group chat.
  • Tap the name of the individual or group chat.
  • Tap Custom notifications> check Use custom notifications.
  • Mute notifications
  • Open an individual or group chat.
  • Tap the name of the individual or group chat.
  • Tap Mute Notification.
  • Select the period of time you want to silence notifications and tap OK.
  • Alternatively, turn off Show notifications to prevent notifications from appearing.
