WhatsApp tests media sharing up to 2GB

Just a week after placing orders message reactions In a beta test, WhatsApp is preparing a new feature much requested by users: the sharing of media files up to 2 GB in size. The functionality, still in an experimental phase, is restricted to testers using the WhatsApp beta for Android in Argentina.

Currently, the current limit to share media files in the instant messaging application is 100 MB, which means that for larger files it is necessary to “break” them or, what WhatsApp least wants, forward them through other platforms.

When will WhatsApp allow larger files in chats?

Some WhatsApp rivals offer higher limits on file sharing. O Telegramfor example, since it was released in 2013, allows uploads of up to 1.5GB, which leads many users and groups to create channels in the app just to list large files.

It is important to remember that while the file sharing feature up to 2 GB is in the testing phase in a restricted group, this is no guarantee that WhatsApp has immediate plans to launch it. As for the screenshots shown above, which were taken in an iOS version, the WABetaInfo guarantees that the new limit is also available for “certain testers using WhatsApp Beta for Android in Argentina”.

That is, there is still no estimate for the comprehensive arrival of the feature, but it may be that the novelty will show up in the app in the future.
