“WhatsApp Testing Message Editing Function for Beta Users”

The website WABetaInfo recently pointed out that WhatsApp is testing the message editing function, so that users do not need to remove typos in the message, but use the editing function to correct it. WABetaInfo indicates that the message editing function is currently in the Beta stage, and it is only provided to a small number of users of the v2.23.10.13 Beta version of the program, and it has not yet been officially launched.

When the user finds that the content of the sent message is wrong, he can long press and click on the message, and then press the “…” menu at the top right of the screen to select “Edit” and modify the message. The word “Edited” will appear below the modified message to let the recipient know that the content has been modified, but the original content will not appear again, so it is impossible to compare the difference before and after editing.

Although WhatsApp does not limit the number of edits, users can only edit messages within 15 minutes of sending them. In addition, users need to edit on the device that originally sent the message. Messages sent on a tablet cannot be edited on a mobile phone. It is currently unknown when WhatsApp will provide the message editing function, and it is not certain whether they will officially launch the function in the end.
