“This function does not require that your main device has an active internet connection as is the case with WhatsApp Web. So, even if the main cellphone is off, you can still use your WhatsApp account on the web or other devices,” wrote WABetaInfo as seen Monday (21/9/2020) .
WhatsApp will also launch a new UI on its desktop version for this multi-device support feature. In the app, the feature will be available under “Linked Devices” or “Linked Devices”.
Here, users can link their WhatsApp account to a new device, and they will see a list of linked devices. It is similar to WhatsApp WebDesktop interface in the application.
There is also a “Multi-device Beta” option which you can activate / deactivate to try out the feature. It also states that not all features will be available with multi-device support.
WABetaInfo notes, features-features such as syncing chat history, starring / sending messages, and turning off chat is also available. WhatsApp is currently testing the feature in its Android app. There is no information regarding its presence on iOS yet, but it looks like it will soon be following its availability.
