WhatsApp cleans up the supported versions
As of this week, WhatsApp for iPhone can only be installed on Apple phones with at least iOS 10. As the iPhone 4s cannot be updated to iOS 10, users who still own one of these models cannot. can no longer update the application.
According to a new support article published on the official website of WhatsApp, here are the new requirements to install the application:
- Android under Android 4.0.3 and higher
- iPhone running iOS 10 and higher
- Some phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 and higher, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
The last time the app was updated to remove support for older phones was in February 2020 with a version that dropped support for iOS 8.
If you are still using WhatsApp on an unsupported device, we recommend that you export all of your chat history before the app stops working completely. Although the app updates are no longer accessible, the services continue to function for a while.
