WhatsApp is working on a new feature: an ephemeral mode, named disappearing mode for the official English version. This novelty was spotted by WABetaInfo but for the moment, WhatsApp has not communicated on the subject.

An “ephemeral” mode that can be activated by default

According to a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new option to enable ephemeral mode by default for all new conversations. It will be possible to activate it via the following path: Settings> Account> Privacy.

It is already possible to activate ephemeral messages but this implies manual intervention in each discussion, by going to Group Info or Contact info for conversations that already exist. This novelty could therefore allow users to no longer worry about activating ephemeral messages, if this is set by default.

WhatsApp tries to strengthen the privacy of messages

This new feature appears as WhatsApp has just updated its new privacy policy. Its launch was done with great difficulty: awkwardly announced for the end of 2020, it had been postponed to February 2021 and then deployed since May 15. For users who do not accept it, access to certain functionalities of the service will be gradually restricted.

No deployment date of the disappearing mode has not been specified yet but according to WABetaInfo the feature should be available in a future update for iOS and Android.
