WhatsApp: soon a function of ephemeral images?

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that would allow its users to send photos and videos so that the recipient can view them just once. Then the content is automatically deleted, as informed by WABetaInfo in a tweet. It gives users the assurance that their shared photos and videos will only actually be viewed once. In the case of the recipient, the storage space occupied by WhatsApp will be reduced.

The tweet does not reveal whether the feature or any hints to it have ever been spotted in a beta of WhatsApp. WABetaInfo specializes in spotting such rumors. It only indicates that this new feature will be rolled out “in the future” for versions of Whatsapp for Android, iOS and web / desktop.

Functionality already deployed at Snapchat, Signal and Telegram

WhatsApp’s competitors like Signal, Snapchat, and Telegram already offer such a unique lookup feature. WhatsApp would therefore follow the same path, but it is already part of WhatsApp’s tactic to emulate the popular features of other messengers to win back users after the fiasco of the introduction of the new rules of use.

Ephemeral messages and new design

Not so long ago, WhatsApp introduced self-destructing messages. This feature gives users the option of deleting messages sent to recipients afterwards. To activate this function, tap the contact name, to access the chat settings, press the option Ephemeral messages, then on Enabled. Messages automatically disappear after 7 days.
