Two women from Zwickau and Vogtland lost several thousand euros to WhatsApp scammers. Both had received messages from unknown numbers on Wednesday. In it, the person at the other end of the chat claimed to be the daughter of the person addressed. The cell phones were said to have been lost or broken. As a result, they asked to settle urgent bills.
Believing that she was helping her daughter out, the woman from Zwickau transferred around 2,800 euros and the woman from Markneukirchen a total of around 3,700 euros. Only afterwards did they realize the fraud.
Further attempts at fraud using the same scheme were reported to the police on Wednesday from Plauen, Steinberg, Zwickau and Lichtenstein.
