Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp announced two new features, namely support for saving contacts directly on WhatsApp and the feature of username instead of phone number.
According to the official statement, this new feature will give users more control to manage WhatsApp contacts.
“Until now, the only way to add contacts was a cell phone, either by typing a phone number or scanning a QR code,” wrote WhatsApp, announced on Thursday (24/10/2024 ).
With this feature users can add and manage contacts directly from the keyboard on WhatsApp Web and Windows, and other connected devices.
The company also introduced a new option to store calls only on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp contacts are suitable when users want to separate business and personal contacts when managing more than one WhatsApp account on their mobile phone.
Contacts saved on WhatsApp will be restored if the user loses their phone or changes devices.
This update will also make it easier to manage and save contacts by username.
A username on WhatsApp will add an extra layer of privacy so you don’t have to share your phone number when you message someone.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a feature that will allow users to create unique usernames, instead of using phone numbers.
This is thought to increase privacy by allowing them to connect with others without revealing their phone number.
The username feature is currently under development and will be available in a future web client update, as noted by Webetainfo.
Even though it is still in the development stage, it seems that WhatsApp is now committed to improving this feature before its official launch by introducing a new interface. -designed, as found in the latest WhatsApp Web update.
