If this WhatsApp bothered you as much as it did me, you’re in luck because the messaging app is about to change it.
WhatsApp has made a decision that of course I think it’s one of the best in recent years. Although at the moment it is something that the messaging application is testing, it will soon be available to all users. According to informa WABetaInfocoming soon we will stop seeing the phone numbers in the groups.
The latest version of WhatsApp for Android beta, with build number 2.23.5.12, reportedly includes a feature that replaces the phone number of a user in a group that we do not have saved by their username. Making the search for messages not a real nightmare.
Say goodbye to phone numbers in groups
In the current version of WhatsApp, if there are users in a group that you have not added, their phone number appears instead of their name. This makes it difficult to recognize who has sent a message if you don’t have the number added to your contacts. However, thanks to this new feature, the username will now appear instead of the phone number.
At the moment this novelty is available in the public beta of WhatsApp, a beta that Any user can download to try the news before anyone else. We recently told you about another great novelty that sets an expiration date for groups. In the betas, WhatsApp tests many functions that, weeks or months later, reach the final version.
Whenever you receive a message from an unknown contact in a group chat, you will see the username instead of the phone number within the chat list. This change makes it easier for the recipient to understand who the unknown contact is without having to save the number as a new contact, and is especially useful in large group chats where it can be difficult to identify unknown group members. Keep in mind that the name can appear instead of the phone number even in different sections of the application, for example, the list of group participants.
It is a quite interesting novelty which can be very useful. Especially in temporary groups where we don’t know all the participants and we don’t want to add each phone one by one. That question of asking who is who in WhatsApp groups is over.
