WhatsApp requires authentication on phone for displaying messages on desktop – Tablets and phones – News

I do not know whether you should consider that important with an increased risk profile (when did you have that uberhaubt?).

You leave your fingerprint everywhere. When I look at my situation, it is still possible to do a lot of damage with just my fingerprint. From the moment you have many important apps (bank, pw vault, recovery email …) on your mobile phone and you allow it to unlock with fingerprint, you still have a fairly serious single point of failure. Especially because your mobile mostly is also your 2FA device.

In addition, your fingerprint always works (exceptions excluded), regardless of your consciousness (unconscious, sleeping, deprived, with brute force). That while a passcode does not. This is often cited for police cases, but at least also applies to criminals who can take advantage of this.

What also matters is that a fingerprint that is digitally stored can also be copied (although this can also be done with a passcode)

That does not alter the fact that a fingerprint is still a lot more secure than no security. Security is always a trade-off between security and ease of use. I just think that safety is not always considered very well and more weight is given to ease of use.
