WhatsApp releases self-destructing photos and videos in beta for Android | Social networks

O WhatsApp released, this Wednesday (30), a new privacy function in the beta version of the app in order to Android. From now on, test users will be able to send media with a single view and that self-destruct after being opened by the recipient.

The resource does not come with a print warning, which opens up loopholes for the recipient to take a screenshot of the photos even with single view enabled. The information is from the specialized website WABetaInfo, known for spreading the word about the application in first hand.

From now on, when sending photos and videos via WhatsApp Beta, a new clock icon appears in the lower right corner of the photo, next to the send button. Just select the timer before pressing “send” and media is shared with single view in conversation. Single view is also available for groups.

The new function allows the recipient of messages to access the content only once. After viewing the photo or video, the media disappears once the user returns to the chat. According to WABetaInfo, the user who sends the messages will receive a notification when the recipient opens the media and views it.

The sender of self-destructive media can verify when the recipient has received, opened and viewed the content from the message data. Even when using the feature with someone who disabled WhatsApp read confirmation, you will be able to check when the media was viewed. Those who took out the blue checks will not be able to check when the media they sent was opened by others.

WABetaInfo also warns that, although the photos are not automatically saved by WhatsApp, there is a risk that the recipient of the message takes screenshots of the media to keep them, since the function does not include a print warning — unlike self-destructive media sent in the private chats of Instagram, for example.

Furthermore, even though the feature is not available to everyone, it works even for those who are not a WhatsApp tester. — that is, if you have the beta version, you can send media with single view even for those who use the stable edition of the messenger.

For now, there is also no prediction of when and if the function will be available for the official version of the messenger. Also, as the feature is still in the testing phase, it can be modified before launch in standard WhatsApp.
