TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – WhatsApp announced a feature that allows users to preview voice messages before sending them to contacts. The update basically helps users listen to voice messages and see if the audio is OK to share via the app.
“If the quality is not good, the user can throw away voicemail and record it again to be shared,” reads a WhatsApp announcement, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.
Feature Voice message preview in WhatsApp works on individual as well as group chats. Also, it has been released for all platforms, including Android and iOS as well as Web and desktop.
To use the voicemail preview feature on mobile devices, users need to touch the microphone button in a WhatsApp chat and swipe up to lock the recording. This will bring up a display where the user will see a stop button and a trash can.
Users can tap the stop button and then press the play button to listen to the voicemail before sharing it with the recipient. The application made by Meta also allows users to move to a specific part of the audio by tapping the search bar.
If they do not find a suitable message to send, the user can delete it by tapping the trash can image, also can send it by pressing the send button.
The addition of the preview feature will be very helpful if users prefer to send voice messages over their text version on WhatsApp. However, users can still accidentally send random voice messages if they just touch the microphone button on the app and don’t swipe up to lock the recording function.
In May, the app with the handset logo was seen developing a preview feature for voicemail. It was initially spotted with dedicated Review and Cancel buttons, as reported by WhatsApp’s new feature tracker WABetaInfo. However, the company prefers to use the traditional play button and trash can over any text reference.
Over the past few months, WhatsApp has shown an active interest in improving the voicemail experience on its platform. The app recently also introduced playback speed and waveform for voicemail. It also saw testing features including a global voicemail player and voicemail transcription.
