The company “WhatsApp” said on its website that it will provide support for devices running Android OS 4.0.3 and later and iPhones running iOS 9 and later, as well as phones running KaiOS 2.5.1, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2, as it will not support older devices starting this month.
“WhatsApp” advised users of devices running modern operating systems to install the whatsApp application and register the phone number via the new update, but it made clear that the application can only be installed with one phone number on one device at a time.
She added that there is no option to transfer chat history between platforms however, she does provide the option to export chat history as an email attachment.
Dr. Khaled Sharif, a member of the Committee for the Protection of User Rights of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, had confirmed to the seventh day earlier, the news circulating about the possibility of stopping the WhatsApp service on many phones that depend on the old Android and iOS operating systems, that the service will not depend directly on These phones, but WhatsApp will not be able to support them when a new update is released, like all applications, so that the user can manage the phone and get the service in a controlled manner.
Al-Sharif explained that the sizes and shapes of smartphones differ from one user to another, and with the great development of phones, it must be accompanied by new application updates that suit those advanced phones, so that the messaging service can continue to be efficient when managing the phone, so WhatsApp will not support the old versions of mobile operating systems like most applications .
He added that it does not mean that the service will stop directly on old phones, but it may be difficult for the user to obtain the latest update for the application through the old operating systems. If he tries to update the phone, the company will send him a special message in this regard.
He pointed out that the continuous updating of the applications installed on users’ devices contributes to providing them with the latest features, while improving the security and safety of the application.
