WhatsApp is preparing a new feature in the beta 2.24.18.16 for Android that could help you organize your contacts and chats. However, the whole thing is not activated yet, so patience is still required. In any case, the possibility of managing chats using individual lists and then filtering them in this way is approaching.
For example, you could group all your work colleagues in one list, your family in another, and friends and acquaintances in a third list. This would make it easier for people with a lot of WhatsApp contacts to keep track of their chats.
The above screenshot by WABetaInfo shows how the whole thing should look in the end. If you have created a specific list, it is then automatically possible to sort your chats/contacts based on the corresponding filter. So if you title a list “Colleagues” for example and then filter by that, you will only see people who have been added to it.
However, it is not clear when this feature will actually be rolled out to everyone. Even in the beta version of WhatsApp, preparations are currently only running in the background.
