Working with passwords is the daily bread of practically all of us. Whether you remember your passwords for various services or use a password manager, your security against external threats could always be a little better. One of the elegant solutions to strengthen security is the implementation of a new feature called Passkeys.

Passkeys is now available on WhatsApp for Android

This technology makes it possible to use, for example, a fingerprint or a face scan to log in, without the user having to set a password within the service. This can be hacked remotely or even stolen, while Passkeys are stored directly in a specific device and it is much more difficult for potential attackers to get to them and abuse them.

When using Passkeys in conjunction with multi-factor authentication, it is currently one of the best methods to secure access to your accounts. This technology is gradually being introduced by a number of services, recently for example the popular password manager 1Password. But Meta doesn’t want to be left behind either, which also offered the option of logging into an account within its popular WhatsApp app. For now, users on the Android platform can enjoy the news. It is not known at this time when users of the iOS platform will also wait. Support for Passkeys is currently rolling out to users within the stable version of WhatsApp and will soon arrive on your device as well.
