After the further development was announced two months ago, WhatsApp is now officially activating the support of the “Picture in Picture” function of iOS. The innovation was announced in connection with the update to version 23.3.77 of the Messenger app that was released over the weekend.
With the support of “Picture in Picture”, the WhatsApp developers want to expand the multitasking options during a video call. This allows users to zoom out and display the video screen as a floating window while accessing other apps or operating system functions.
“Picture in picture” has been possible since iOS 14
Apple introduced the “Picture in Picture” function almost two and a half years ago with iOS 14, but support from third-party apps is slow to provide. WhatsApp, for example, has been offering a comparable function for Android users for a long time.
WhatsApp developers are talking about an official start in connection with the update that has now been released. If the function extension is still not available to you, a little patience is advised. It is to be expected that the new feature will be activated step by step as usual in this case as well.
In the description text for the currently published new app version, the developers are, as always, not very specific. It also lists some functions that have been available to the majority of users for several weeks, but according to the description in the App Store will only be introduced over the next few weeks. In detail, the scope of services of the messenger app can still differ fundamentally for individual users, regardless of the installed version number.
