Asunción: There is almost nothing for free and if there is, then there is a catch. It was and is the same with messenger services such as WhatsApp.
“What people need to understand is that nothing is free and if someone offers you a free product, it means that in that case it is your data,” said Jimmy Villaverde, director of ComuniK.
“In practice, all Zuckerberg platforms shared information with each other for a long time. The idea is to know all users so that we can offer them increasingly personalized advertisements, ”he added.
“The serious thing is that nobody sets a limit and today happily announces that both they and other third parties could use the information from chats for commercial purposes,” explained Villaverde.
He said the need to work on data protection laws in Paraguay is urgent and imperative. The current trend is that more and more platforms and tools are in the hands of fewer and fewer people. What awaits us are more and more monopoly positions.
“WhatsApp is even working on its own payment method, which is already being tested in Brazil and is called WhatsApp Pay. A single person knows so much about each of us that this is a danger, ”concluded Villaverde.
On the other hand, it should be even easier for Paraguayans to present themselves when the social networks are linked. Almost every second citizen in the country, according to a study from 2017, uses Facebook and tries to put themselves in the limelight in their status reports.
