WhatsApp New Security Features: How to Hide Locked Chats and Secure Them with Secret Codes

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Security and privacy are taken seriously by WhatsApp. The messaging app regularly gets new security features and improvements to existing features. One of them is the feature of hiding locked chats which is the focus of the WhatsApp beta update.

When chats are locked on WhatsApp, they can be accessed from the Locked chats folder at the top of your chat inbox. However, what if you want to hide the fact that you have a locked chat?

On the app WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.24.20, some testers have access to a new option that allows them to completely hide locked chats and secure them with secret codes. Reported Sam MobileWednesday (11/14/2023), this option can be found in the newly added Chat key settings subsection in WhatsApp settings.

When both are enabled, locked chat folders will disappear from your inbox. To access it, you have to enter a secret code in the search bar inside the Chat tab.

If you are simply hiding a locked chat folder, you will need to use your device PIN in the search bar. Like every other feature that was first introduced via the beta version of WhatsApp, users WhatsApp application non-beta will have to wait for the ability to hide locked chat behind code. If you are using WhatsApp beta, you can download the latest update (2.23.24.20) from Play Store on your Galaxy/Android smartphone.
