WhatsApp: New features for group calls are here

WhatsApp not only enables exchange via text and voice messages, calls are also no problem with the messenger. If desired, conversations can even be extended to telephone conferences with several participants. But then the overview quickly goes away and the comfort sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. This is where operator Meta is now starting and making major improvements in the course of a current update. As the company announced in a press release, WhatsApp now has three new features that are intended to optimize group calls.

The first are so-called banner notifications for newcomers. If a user joins an ongoing group call, this was often not clear to the others until now. That can end up being uncomfortable. For example, when the group is making plans for a surprise party and the future birthday child mingles with the audience unnoticed. This shouldn’t happen again in the future. When a new participant joins the group call, a banner stating “Person X has joined the call” now appears on everyone’s display.

Just mute other users

One of the biggest problems associated with group calling is coordination. As soon as several participants in the conversation start chatting at once, the rest only understands the station. Disturbing background noises in the user’s environment can also severely disrupt the fun of the exchange. If you would like to concentrate on what one person is saying in the future, you can simply mute other participants with just a few clicks and the box will be quiet. Just remember to unblock the people you’ve silenced when the time comes, otherwise you could miss important information.

Last but not least, WhatsApp will allow you to contact individual people via text message during ongoing group calls. For example, if you want to pass on information to a conversation partner that doesn’t concern the rest of the group, simply send a short note during the conversation. From now on, it is no longer necessary to interrupt the group call.
