WhatsApp New Feature “Pin” Allows Users to Place Important Messages at Top of Chat – How to Use and Where to Find

KOMPAS.com – WhatsApp released a new feature called “Pin”. As the name suggests, this feature can be used to pin or place a WhatsApp message at the top of the conversation window.

The presence of this feature was announced by WhatsApp via its official page. Previously, users who wanted to pin a message on WhatsApp had to use the Starred Message feature to mark various important messages on WA.

Using the “Pin” feature is more practical than Starred Message. With “Pin”, messages or chats will be easier to find because they are directly at the top of the conversation space. Meanwhile, messages marked with the Starred Message feature must be searched first using several steps.

Apart from that, the newest “Pin” feature is also different from the “Pinned Chat” feature which was already available in early 2023.

The difference is, this latest “Pin” feature is useful for pinning messages sent by someone in a private conversation or in a group, so that the message is easy to find. As picture below:

Meanwhile, “Pinned Message” functions to pin or pin priority chats so that they are easier to access at any time and are not “buried”.

Now with the Pin feature, messages pinned to the top of the conversation window can be seen easily.

When used, this feature can of course be used for various things, such as embedding messages containing home addresses, activity schedules and various other important information.

In other words, users don’t need to bother scrolling their screen, or searching for the message with the Search feature, if they want to find an important message in a WhatsApp conversation.

Things that need to be considered when using this feature are that users can only pin one message for each conversation window.

Then, if you want to embed a message in a group, this depends on the rules in that group. The reason is, each group admin can determine whether members in their group can use the Pin feature in the group or not.

In addition, pinned messages will also disappear from the top view of the conversation window within a time limit specified by the user, ranging from 24 hours, 7 days, to 30 days. That way, a message cannot be pinned forever.

It can already be tried in Indonesia

Meta said that this Pin feature has been rolled out to all WhatsApp users in the world in stages.

KompasTekno monitoring on Wednesday (13/12/2023) morning, we can now use this feature in our WhatsApp Android application version 2.23.25.19. This means that the Pin feature seems to have been tried out by a number of WhatsApp users in Indonesia.

To use the Pin feature in WhatsApp, users simply click and hold on the message they want to pin. Then, they can click the “three dots” icon in the top right corner of the conversation window and select the “Pin” menu.

After that, the user can choose how long the message will appear at the top of the conversation window. Options include 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days, and once selected, users simply click the “Pin” button.

After that, the pinned message will then appear at the top of the conversation window and is equipped with a “pin needle” icon. The message will then disappear, aka not be pinned again, when the time limit selected by the user has passed.

So, if Indonesian users who want to try the Pin feature haven’t gotten this feature, then they seem to have to be patient for a while. Because, new WhatsApp features are usually distributed gradually to all users.

However, what is clear is that new WhatsApp features usually appear in new versions of the WhatsApp application. So, it is a good idea for users, be it Android or iOS, to update their WhatsApp application to the latest version in their respective application stores.
