The still very popular Messenger WhatsApp (App Store-Link) from Mark Zuckerberg’s meta-group will be equipped with new functions that primarily affect user status reports. Similar to what is already known from Facebook, Instagram and Co., a status message can also be posted in WhatsApp, which automatically disappears again after 24 hours.
Like meta now in one blog post reported that the status area of the messenger should be provided with additional options. These are the features:
- Selection of private target groups: The status you share may not always be appropriate for all of your contacts. That’s why you can now choose who should see your status every time you update your status. The last selected target group will be saved and used as the default for your next status.
- Language status: Introducing the ability to record and share voice messages up to 30 seconds in WhatsApp status. Voice status can be used for more personal updates, especially if you feel more comfortable expressing yourself by speaking rather than typing.
- Status Reactions: We’re adding status reactions to provide a quick and easy way to react to status updates from your contacts. You can now quickly reply to any status by swiping up and tapping one of eight emojis. You can still reply to a status with text, voice, stickers, and more.
- Status Profile rings for new updates: With the new status profile ring, you’ll never miss a status from a loved one again. This ring appears around your contact’s profile picture when they post a status update. It appears in the chat lists, the lists of group participants, and the contact information.
- Link previews in status: Now when you post a link in your status, you’ll automatically see a visual preview of the content, just like sending a message. Visual previews make your status updates look better and give your contacts a better idea of what the link is before they click it.
According to Meta, the update has already begun to be distributed to users worldwide. It should be made available to all Messenger users in the coming weeks.
