WhatsApp messages are viewed and reported to the authorities

When Facebook took over WhatsApp, it promised to respect its users’ privacy. The fact is, the company employs thousands of people who supposedly read encrypted chats.
The social media giant Facebook took over WhatsApp in 2014, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg promising to “leave the simple ad-free messaging app as it is”.
End-to-end encryption was introduced in 2016, whereby the app itself assures the users on the screen that «no one outside of this chat» can read the messages. Zuckerberg himself said in 2018 before the US Senate: “We do not see any of the content in WhatsApp.”
None of this seems to be true. In the shared Facebook / WhatsApp offices in Austin (Texas), Dublin (Ireland) and Singapore, more than a thousand moderators are busy viewing the messages marked by artificial intelligence.
