haan On Tuesday morning, a 74-year-old was defrauded of a four-digit sum by fraudsters with a false WhatsApp message.
The district police authority tirelessly warns of various scams used by the perpetrators. Again and again, there are successful deeds for the fraudsters in the towns belonging to the district.
As reported by the police, a 74-year-old from Haan was killed by a false WhatsApp message on Tuesday morning. At around 11:15 a.m., the woman received a message on her cell phone via the messenger service.
“The writer pretended to be her daughter and said that her cell phone was broken and that she could currently only be reached at the number shown,” the authority said. The elderly woman is supposed to make an urgent transfer because the woman’s alleged daughter cannot access her online banking account.
“The 74-year-old helpfully assured that she would take over the payment and transferred the four-digit amount to the account mentioned,” said the police. It was only later that she personally consulted her daughter, so that the fraud was noticed.
The criminal police took over the further processing and would like to use the current incident again to urgently warn of this new scam.
