WhatsApp introduces new features
Mark Zuckerberg himself announced two new features for WhatsApp on Facebook (Source: Facebook), which should make voice and video calls easier and later make them much safer:
- Call link: So-called “call connections” have already been introduced. This allows you to create a link that you can then share anywhere with people who need to join a voice or video call. They don’t have to be in the same group. This way you can finally make voice or video calls with several people at the same time, without having to create a special group for it, which otherwise would not make sense. The link will be shared on WhatsApp and anyone who clicks on it will be able to join the call.
- Encryption for video calls: Additionally, Mark Zuckerberg announced that securely encrypted video calls with up to 32 people will be tested. There is still no information on when encrypted video calling with so many people will really be introduced. However, the tests are underway, so the introduction should not be long in coming. Otherwise, Zuckerberg wouldn’t have announced the feature now.
The two main changes have been officially announced and some are already being implemented. But other functions must follow. WhatsApp is therefore gradually being expanded.
