WhatsApp launches new features for timed messages

New setting for WhatsApp messages

Instant communication platform under the umbrella of Meta, Facebook’s new structuring WhatsApp, launched its new features in Timed Messages, which it launched last year. As of today, users will be able to choose how long the messages stay in their chats, thanks to the active timed messages by default and multiple time settings on WhatsApp.

Adding two new duration options for timed messages, WhatsApp has introduced 24-hour and 90-day options in addition to the existing 7-day option. WhatsApp users will now have the option to enable timed messages by default for all new chats.

When timed messages are enabled, all new one-on-one chats initiated by the user or someone else will be set to disappear after the selected time period.

“We’ve also added a new option when creating a group chat that lets you enable this feature for groups you create,” WhatsApp said in a statement. This new optional feature does not change or delete any of your existing chats.

HOW TO ENABLE IT?

When the user chooses to enable default timed messages, a message will be shown during their chat informing people that they have selected this feature by default. In this way, he will reveal that this is not a unique situation for that person, but a choice he makes about how he wants to communicate with everyone on WhatsApp in the future. If the user wants a particular chat to be permanent, they will be able to disable this feature in that chat.

To enable timed messages on WhatsApp, you need to follow these steps on iPhone and Android:

Go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Default message duration and select a duration.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT TIME MESSAGES

Other things to know about WhatsApp timed messages are as follows:

– In individual chats, both users can enable or disable timed messages. In group chats, all group participants can enable or disable timed messages. However, group administrators can change group settings to allow only group administrators to enable or disable timed messages.

– If a user does not open WhatsApp within a 24-hour, 7-day or 90-day period, the corresponding message will disappear from the chat. However, the preview of the message may still appear in the notifications until WhatsApp is opened.

– When you reply to a message, the replied message is quoted. When you reply to a timed message, the quoted text may remain in the chat after the time you selected has expired.

– Timed messages forwarded to a chat that has timed messages disabled will not disappear from the chat they were sent to.

– If users create a backup before the message disappears, the timed message is included in the backup. Timed messages are deleted when users restore the backup.

ATTENTION TO THESE!

Recommending that timed messages be used only with trusted people, WhatsApp also warns:

“The person you are messaging;

You can forward a timed message before it disappears or take a screenshot and save it;

It can copy and save the content of the timed message before it disappears.

He can take a picture of the timed message using a camera or other device before it disappears.”
