As you can see in the screenshots above, a new “Connect a device” option appears in the three-dot menu. To link a second smartphone to your account, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your second smartphone
  2. Click on Three point menu or go to Settings then click Connected devices
  3. To select Pair a device

Up to 4 devices connected to the same account

Companion mode will allow you to connect up to 4 other devices to your account, for a total of 5 devices connected to your account at the same time. You will then have the option to connect other smartphones or a tablet and/or computer. And of course, all of these devices will benefit from end-to-end encryption.

Note that the option is currently only available to a handful of beta testers on Android and not yet on iOS. To take advantage of it, you need to install the latest beta version of WhatsApp from the Play Store. Other users will be able to test the tool in the coming weeks, says WABetaInfo.

For others, including iPhone users, you will have to wait a few months before you can enjoy it. It is not yet known when the feature will land on the stable version of the application.
