WhatsApp is rowing back – Wochenblatt

Asunción: WhatsApp is now rowing back, announcing that it will postpone the controversial change to its rules for information exchange, given the massive flight of users to competing platforms like Telegram or Signal.

Through a publication on its official blog, WhatsApp has made the postponement of the entry into force of the changes to its terms of use official.

“We have heard from a lot of people how confusing our latest update is. There was a lot of misinformation that was cause for concern and we want to help everyone understand our principles and facts, ”reads the first part of the statement.

Next, the company explains that “they always protect personal conversations with end-to-end encryption so that neither WhatsApp nor Facebook can see these private messages.” With this, the company denies the rumor of an alleged invasion of privacy.

The update announced a few days ago contains “new options” for users to send messages to a company via WhatsApp and provides more transparency about how data is collected or used.

“We’re postponing the date when people will be asked to review and accept the new terms of use,” WhatsApp said in its statement.

This will remove the February 8 deadline for users to accept the new rules, including sharing information with Facebook servers. The change is under review and has been postponed until May 15th.

The company is also committed to “doing much more to eliminate misinformation about how privacy and security work in WhatsApp,” the messaging service said.

WhatsApp’s determination stems from the massive flight of users to competing applications like Telegram and Signal, which are characterized by higher security and privacy features, as well as additional options not yet available in the app.
