WhatsApp is planning a change that some of you won’t like: certain older iPhone models will no longer be supported starting February 24, 2025. The reason for this is an adjustment to the system requirements. You can find out exactly what this means and whether your device is affected here.
These iPhones are flying out
From February 24, 2025, WhatsApp will increase the minimum operating system requirements. From then on you need at least iOS 14.1 to continue using Messenger. Bad news for owners of older models like this iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This and older devices cannot be updated to iOS 14.1 and are therefore no longer supported by WhatsApp.
WhatsApp explains this step with security aspects: Older operating systems can no longer meet modern security standards and do not support all new functions. By increasing system requirements, the company wants to both improve security and introduce new features that would no longer work on outdated iPhones.
