PMJ NEWS – WhatsApp presents an update to its application with a third-party chat feature, which is allegedly a sign of the presence of a cross-platform messaging feature from Meta.
The update information was conveyed by WhatsApp via upload on its official website WABetaInfo on Sunday (10/9/2023).
Through this upload, WhatsApp also confirmed that its parent company Meta has complied with the European Digital Markets Act.
“WhatsApp is working to comply with new European Union regulations by developing support for chat interoperability, and this support will be available in future app updates,” the post said.
Meanwhile, the beta trial comes just days after the European Commission confirmed that Meta had met the definition of a gatekeeper under the EU Digital Markets Act.
The regulation requires communications software such as WhatsApp to interoperate with third-party messaging applications by March 2024.
For your information, in the WABetaInfo upload, interoperability will allow someone to contact users on WhatsApp even if they don’t have a WhatsApp account.
