JawaPos.com – WhatsApp continues to improve its ability to provide the best experience to users. This is proven by the continued arrival of new features released by Meta’s instant messaging platform.
Most recently, the latest versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS now support hiding your IP address. Reporting from the official Engineering Facebook page, this feature will hide your IP address from other parties in your calls via the WhatsApp server and your real world location.
WhatsApp also added another new privacy feature that allows users to silence unknown callers. This feature will block more sophisticated cyber attacks on user data.
To enable the Protect new IP address feature in calls, you have to perform steps. First, tap Settings then go to Privacy. If so, select Advanced, tap Protect IP address in calls.
However, it should be noted that there are drawbacks to using this feature. The process of relaying your calls through the WhatsApp server will result in reduced call quality.
“Privacy and security are at the heart of WhatsApp. In addition to protecting private messages with end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp empowers users to control their own privacy settings: from what you share, how you appear online, or who can contact you or add you to the group,” wrote Meta regarding this new WhatsApp feature.
Previously, in June 2023, WhatsApp announced an additional privacy feature: Silence Unknown Callers. We launched this feature because of its benefits not only for privacy but also security.
The experience is simple: with the setting enabled, calls from unknown numbers will not ring your phone. Having carefully built this feature to minimize the attack surface and external data processing, WhatsApp says it can help protect users not only from unwanted contacts, but also cyber attacks and spyware.
Then in October 2023, WhatsApp started rolling out ‘IP Address Protection in Calls’ which hides your IP from other parties by forwarding calls through the WhatsApp Server.
