WhatsApp is introducing a new privacy feature that will make it difficult for malicious parties to infer your location by protecting your IP address during calls.
According to what was reported by WABetaInfo, the messaging app owned by Meta adds an additional layer of security to WhatsApp calls by protecting the IP address and location from malicious actors.
The feature is currently available to some WhatsApp beta testers for Android and iOS, and WhatsApp users will see a new section called “Advanced,” placed within the privacy settings screen.
The new section contains the option to protect the new IP address in the call, making it difficult for anyone on the call to infer your location through secure relaying through WhatsApp servers.
It is very important to note that call quality may be slightly affected by the Privacy Call Relay feature due to the encryption and routing processes of your connection during the call through WhatsApp servers.
By activating the call relay option, you will add an extra level of anonymity to your communications, and we believe this is especially important when you are interacting with people you did not previously trust. The additional protection comes at the cost of slower call quality, as the data must travel through WhatsApp servers for anonymity.
