WhatsApp Introduces New Feature to Send Messages to Unknown Phone Numbers

WhatsApp makes it possible to send messages to phone numbers that are not saved in the contact list. Until now, users always had to do this before the number could be reached via the popular chat app.

After the update, users can press the ‘new chat’ heading that can be found in the conversation overview of the app. There you can not only search for contacts by name, but also by phone numbers. Previously only the former was possible.

WABetaInfo reports that the feature will be introduced immediately on installations of WhatsApp, without being limited to a beta version of the app. The new function did not yet work on this editor’s device. That in itself is not surprising: updates to large platforms such as this often happen in stages; it is expected that every WhatsApp user will have this function in the foreseeable future.
