WhatsApp introduces “Keep in Chat” feature for saving messages beyond expiration date

Three years ago, the messaging app WhatsApp began offering the ability to limit access to messages for up to 90 days, after which they would delete themselves. It was created with the idea to save and optimize information consumption. Now this functionality is supplemented with the possibility to save the message for an unlimited time, but it will have to be accepted by the sender.

The expiration date of messages can be specified in each specific correspondence. The new functionality will be called Keep in Chat, and it will be designed to save a message in the communication history that might prove useful after the deadline. However, each saving of this message will have to be approved by the sender, otherwise there will be no point in using this limited time window at all.

A special notification will appear on the sender’s screen, whether he allows the specific message to be stored in the correspondence without restriction. If it is rejected, then it will no longer be possible to request an extension of time and it will be available at a predetermined time. This is a good solution in order not to lose the meaning of the disappearing messages, since the idea is that these messages will not be accessible forever. The new functionality will roll out to all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.
