Meta released a new feature that allows users to have two Whatsapp accounts on one cellphone. In his announcement on Facebook, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said this new feature would be rolled out to all WhatsApp users on Android in the near future.
This new feature will certainly be very helpful for users who have two WhtasApp accounts, for example one personal account and another account for work matters. Previously, users who had two WhatsApp accounts had to use two cellphones because one cellphone could only be used to access one account.
Alternatively, cellphone vendors such as Xiaomi and Oppo have features such as cloning applications which can provide two WhatsApp applications on one cellphone which users can use to access two WhatsApp accounts on one device.

Now WhatsApp users no longer need to carry two cellphones or bother setting up a second application just to access two WhatsApp accounts at once.
“It’s really helpful to switch between accounts — like work and personal accounts — now you don’t have to log out every time, carry two phones, or worry about sending messages from the wrong place,” said WhatsApp in a blog post, as quoted by TechCrunch, Friday (20/10/2023).
WhatsApp said users who want to add a second account must have a phone number and a second SIM card, or a phone that supports multi-SIM or eSIM. A second cellphone or SIM card is needed to receive the OTP code via SMS.
After the initial verification process, the WhatsApp application can be used to access two accounts at once without a second device or SIM, said WhatsApp spokesperson Ellie Heatrick.

WhatsApp says users can set privacy and notification settings for each account, so users can choose to receive notifications on only one account.
In its announcement, WhatsApp only said that this new feature would be rolled out to Android. It is not yet known when this feature will be available on WhatsApp for iOS.
