From the beginning of the new year it will be necessary to change smartphones, or rather: those who still have some dated devices will have to do it.
The announcement was made a few months ago, and time has now run out: in a few days, the well-known instant messaging app will no longer be compatible with some models.
Among the incompatible smartphones, there are as many models with the Android operating system as iOS, and the versions on which the app will stop working aren’t even too old. Let’s see which ones they are.
WhatsApp will stop working with these operating systems
Those who need to use WhatsApp even on an older smartphone should check the version of the operating system installed.
Starting in early 2023, WhatsApp will no longer work with smartphones that have iOS 12.1 or Android 4.2 Jelly Bean installed.
The news appears to be of little concern for Android users, also because only a few still own an Android Jelly Bean, whose release date dates back to ten years ago.
More worrying is the announcement concerning Apple smartphones: iOS 12.1 dates back only a few years ago, precisely to 2018.
Which cell phone models will be affected
At Apple, the iPhone 5 and 5C will be overwhelmed by the novelty.
As for Android devices, however, the list is long and varied.
At Samsung, for example, WhatsApp will no longer work on the S3 mini, S2, Samsung Galaxy core and Ace 2 models.
At Sony, however, the Xperia Net, Arc S and Miro will be involved, while at LG many models, such as the Optimus 4X HD and the Optimus F3, 5 and 6 will no longer support WhatsApp.
Furthermore, the HTC Desire 500 and the Huawei P1, Ascend D1 and Mate will no longer be able to use WhatsApp.
Therefore, anyone who owns an Android smartphone should check the version of their operating system to avoid unpleasant surprises.
How to check your android version
Checking your Android version is very intuitive and simple, or at least quite similar to most versions. Simplifying, you need to do this:
In the menu of your smartphone, you need to select the “Settings” icon.
Then go to “phone info” and select the “Android version” item.
If you see a fruit jelly on the screen that opens, your smartphone will not be compatible with whatsapp from the beginning of 2023.
Consequently, if you still want to use the application, you need to change it now.
