To protect your WhatsApp chat history, you should make regular backups. You can use Apple iCloud and your Google account for this. You can read how the backup works here.
For many of you, WhatsApp chat histories certainly contain many important functions, such as important conversations with friends, appointment arrangements or perhaps even the odd holiday photo. To ensure that all of this doesn’t suddenly disappear when the chat history is deleted, you should create regular backups.
If you lose your smartphone or it gets stolen, you reset it or even switch to a new phone, you can still use your WhatsApp account, but previous chat histories and media used will be gone. But the popular messenger offers a function with which you can save the chats manually or fully automatically.

Open the WhatsApp settings on the iPhone and tap “Chats” Image 1, then “Chat Backup”. Image 2

Then click on “Create backup now”. Your data will now be backed up.

If you reinstall and verify with the same phone number and Apple ID, you will automatically be guided through the recovery process.

Under “Automatic Backup” you can define cycles for automatic data backups. Optionally, you can integrate your shared videos into the data backup using the “Include videos” switch.

Open “Settings” in the chat overview via the three-dot menu.

Then tap on “Chats” Image 2 > “Chat Backup” Image 3.

If you tap on “Backup”, your chat backup will be saved in the storage of your Google account. Of course, you must have a Google account activated on your device and have enough storage space available on it.
Back up chats with other programs
The previously offered backup option via the internal memory of your smartphone is no longer available. This means that the two options above are currently your only options.
